48hr Film Challenge

Prior to the main Film Festival, teams are given 48-hours to write, direct and edit a short film. Each short film must include three special elements that are only revealed at the kickoff to the challenge.

This event has proven to be the most entertaining portion of the Fort McMurray International Film Festival. We encourage filmmakers who have entered the Film Festival to also visit our beautiful region and participate in this exciting creative event. Films from the 48hr Challenge are screened during the Film Festival and are eligible for Awards!

Teams will have from 8pm August 26th to 8pm August 28th to write, shoot, edit, and submit a short film. Teams unable to attend the shotgun start must register prior and will receive all elements and rules/regulations via email immediately following the in-person reveal.

Registration is $20, and the form can be downloaded here. Email your team’s completed registration form (as well as any e-transfers) to info@ymmiff.com.

The kickoff and deadline drop-off will both take place in front of Keyano Theatre on King St. Submissions can be sent electronically prior to the deadline via file sharing links sent to info@ymmiff.com.
