In 2011, the YMM Podcast approached Events Wood Buffalo with the concept of organizing a Film Festival dedicated to showcasing both local and international filmmaking talent during interPLAY, our region’s arts and culture festival. The film fest was designed to invite a wide range of creative formats, styles and genres to be presented on the big screen. The interPLAY Film Festival was born and has become integrated into the community calendar over four consecutive years.
After 5 years, the festival has been renamed to the Fort McMurray International Film Festival (YMMIFF) in order to identify itself as an independent event but with the same spirit and passion for the arts that celebrate local talent on an international level.
The YMMIFF seeks to introduce a wide range of international cinema to Northern Canada by featuring exceptional films from around the world as well as locally produced films. Each year features the main film festival as well as the 48hr Film Challenge where filmmakers have 48-hours to write, direct and edit a short film that contains special elements.
We are constantly looking for collaboration and feedback when it comes to our festival. If you have any comments, ideas or suggestions; please contact us using the menu tab above. We look forward to delivering a creative, entertaining and inspiring experience.
